What workers can do if they have suffered catastrophic injury

What workers can do if they have suffered catastrophic injury

On Behalf of Kyle Robertson, PLLC | Dec 13, 2019 | workers' compensation |

It is one thing to be hurt at work but when workers suffer serious and catastrophic injuries on the job, their livelihood and future may be implicated for the long term.

Workers’ compensation benefits are an important type of benefit available to injured workers to help them through the challenges they face when they are seriously injured on the job.

Injured workers can suffer catastrophic injuries on the job including traumatic brain injuries (TBIs);

spinal injuries, such as paraplegia and quadriplegia; back and neck injuries; and burn injuries. These injuries can be suffered because of falls, explosions and other types of workplace accidents. The cumulative toll of repetitive stress injuries can also impact workers and make it difficult, if not impossible, for them to perform their jobs.

Over time or following a catastrophic workplace accident, injured workers may need medical care and treatment and may be unable to perform their work-related duties to earn a living. Medical bills and physical therapy bills can pile up at the exact time the injured worker faces an inability to earn an income to support themselves or their family. While the injured worker is likely living in pain and discomfort, these circumstances can add worry as well.

Fortunately, workers’ compensation benefits are available to help injured workers with their medical expenses and lost earnings while away from work recuperating. This can be essential help the injured worker needs which is why they should be familiar with how they can access these valuable benefits when they most need them.
